OURSTORY

For over 38 years, JP Surfboards has been handcrafting custom surfboards from the Gower Peninsula, earning a reputation built on experience, craftsmanship and an unwavering passion for surfing.
JP's shaping journey began decades ago, learning alongside some of Australia's most respected board builders. Those early years laid the foundations for a shaping philosophy that still guides every board today: no two surfers are the same, so no two boards should be either.

That commitment to truly custom surfboards has seen JP shape boards for everyone from first-time surfers to world champions. His boards have been trusted by Championship Tour surfer Russell Winter during some of the best performances of his career, alongside elite surfers including Jay Quinn (New Zealand), Rémi (France), Tom Lowe, Nathan Phillips, Mark Vaughan, Greg Owen, Jason Aparicio, Aaron Reed, Fergal Smith, Toby Cunningham, Steve England, Rob Small, Griska Roberts, Patrick Dark, Ollie Tom Evans, Ruby Knox and current QS surfer PLD.
JP has also been honoured to work with Adaptive World Champion Llewelyn "Sponge" Williams, creating boards that help surfers of all abilities perform at their highest level.

While professional surfers have always trusted JP's craftsmanship, the heart of the business has remained the everyday surfer. Custom surfboards are at the core of everything we do because every surfer has a different style, ability, physique and local wave. Understanding those differences and translating them into the perfect board, is what has defined JP's career for nearly four decades.

Whether you're chasing more speed, easier paddling, tighter turns or greater confidence in challenging conditions, JP takes the time to understand exactly what you need before a planer ever touches a blank. It's this personal approach, combined with decades of shaping experience, that has earned JP a reputation for building boards that simply work.

Every JP Surfboard is shaped by hand in Gower, Wales, with quality and performance at the forefront of every build.

Today, the workshop remains a true family operation. Tom Purton, widely regarded as one of the finest board finishers in the industry after spending many years with JS Industries in Australia, brings world-class finishing expertise to every board.

From world champions to weekend surfers, every board leaving the JP Surfboards workshop is built with the same care, attention to detail and singular goal: creating the right board for the individual surfer.
